The History of Ryokubi Dojo
The Ryokubi Karate Dojo opened its door on April 1, 1999 in Stamford, CT. Our first location was next door to the State Movie Theater in Springdale which is almost a landmark of that area.
People used to look into the Dojo while they were waiting for their show to start.
By the end of that month, we had about a dozen children who came to train at the dojo. When we
celebrated our first anniversary, 900-square-foot dojo already started to look a little small.
Even though our main focus has always been training at the Dojo, we also served our community by visiting nursing homes, raising funds for local educational facilities and wildlife preservation.
In 2006, the idea came from some of the parents that the Dojo should become non-profit organization and try to support families who were having a hard time sending their children to the Dojo. Some parents contributed their time to work as a board member.
The Ryokubi Dojo obtained 501(c)(3) status and moved into the current location in early 2007. We started Judo Program and also Lion Spirit Program for children with special needs.

While some students came and went, most of them have been with us since they were 5 or 6 years old!
